SUHRAWARDY UDYAN, DHAKA: Police detained on Monday afternoon three persons with firearms and petrol bomb from city’s Suhrawardy Udyan, where Awami Legue is holding a mass rally.

The detainees are Jashim, Jahangir Alam and Abu Sayem.

Shahbagh Thana Officer-in-Charge Sirajul Islam said they were held from the rally venue at around 3:00pm along with a foreign made pistol, 29 bullets and a petrol bomb.

Ruling Awami League is holding the rally marking the ‘Homecoming Day of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’.

The rally started at 2:30pm in the area where Prime Minister and also AL president Sheikh Hasina, also prime minister, is set to address the rally as chief guest.

The meeting is chaired by the AL presidium member of Awami League Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury MP, also the deputy leader of the parliament.
