9 vehicles torched during blockade

DHAKA: Leaders and activists of BNP-led 20-party alliance allegedly set nine vehicles on fire at different parts of the country from Monday late night to Tuesday morning.

Banglanews Correspondents reported from the areas on Tuesday, the eight day of the nationwide blockade called by BNP.

In Chittagong, miscreants set a passenger bus on fire near Sholoshohor bus stand of the port city in the morning. No causality and arrest were reported.

Chittagong division Fire Service and Civil Defense (FSCD) control room operator Saidur Rahman confirmed the matter to banglanews.

In Dhaka, miscreants torched a microbus of private satellite television channel GTV in Kamalapur area of the city early Tuesday.

None, however, sustained injuries, confirmed GTV sources.

In Noakahli, local BNP is observing dawn-to-dusk hartal across the district on Tuesday. Picketers set fire to a newspaper-carrying microbus at Sebarhat Pashchim Bazar in Senbag upazila in the morning.

Multanur Rahman, a newspaper distributor of Maijdee area of the district town, confirmed the matter to banglanews.

In Chandpur, blockaders torched a goods-loaded truck and vandalized several CNG-run auto rickshaws on Chandpur-Comilla highway in Shahrasti of Baniacho area of the district early morning.

Shahrasti FSCD station master Nirmal Chandra Sarkar confirmed the matter to banglanews.

In Tangail, a goods-laden truck was torched on Dhaka-Tangail highway in Gharinda area of Sadar upazila on Monday night.

Tangil FSCD officer M Ashraf confirmed the matter to banglanews.

In Barisal, miscreants set fire to a Dhaka-bound passenger bus of Sakura Paribahan near Barisal University in Khaiyerabad Bridge area on Monday night.

Barisal Katwali Model Thana second officer Golam Kabir confirmed the matter to banglanews.

In Savar of Dhaka, miscreants separately set a covered van and two trucks on fire in Ulail and Tetuljhora area on Monday night.

Savar Model Thana Officer-In-Charge (OC) Motaleb Mian confirmed the matter to banglanews.
