DHAKA: A total of 136 leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islam were detained by the law enforcers in five districts of the country on Tuesday.
In Sunamganj, police held 33 people, including BNP men, on charge of creating violence in the morning from different places of the district.
Sunamganj (East) Additional Police Superintendent Hemayetul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.
Our Comilla correspondent reports that some 16 BNP-Jamaat activists were detained from several places of the district on early Tuesday.
Comilla police control room made the disclosure to banglanews.
Moreover, in Khulna, police personnel held 38 people, including BNP and Jamaat activists, from eight thanas of the district.
Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Special Branch Assistant Deputy Commissioner Moniruzzaman Mithu confirmed the matter to banglanews.
Our Noakhali correspondent said that police held 22 leaders and activists of BNP and Islami Chhatra Shibir, a student wing of Jamaat-e-Islam, to avert any untoward situation in district in the morning.
Police Superintendent of the district Ilias Sharif confirmed the matter.
On the other hand, some 27 BNP-Jamaat men were held by the law enforcers in Barapkunda area of Sitakunda district during the 10th day of ongoing rail-road-waterway blockade sponsored by BNP led 20-party alliance.
Sitakunda Thana Sub-Inspector Rehana confirmed the matter to banglanews.
