‘No dialogue with unelected govt’ Rafiqul Islam Mia

DHAKA: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) standing committee member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia denied any chance of dialogue with the incumbent government as he termed it ‘unelected’.

The senior leader of the party came up with the assertion while addressing a discussion organized by Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum, one day after the speech of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s advisor HT Imam, who placed preconditions for talks.

In his speech, Barrister Rafiq said that a group of people shot Reaz Rahman following the instruction from a higher level of the government.

He added: “We have no talk with the government who had shed people’s blood.”

Barrister Rafiq commented that the incumbent government has assumed power illegally. It should be ousted. Otherwise, democracy and human rights will not be protected.

The BNP standing committee member reiterated their party demand of arranging national polls under the supervision of caretaker government.

He also urged people to make BNP-led 20-party alliance called nationwide shutdown on Thursday successful.

BNP joint secretary general Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Barrister Badruddoza Badal and Rafiqul Haque Talukdar, among others, also spoke at the event.
