COMILLA: At least six people were injured in a clash between leaders and activists of Awami League (AL) and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Kandirpar area of the district town on Thursday morning.
Joint convener of the Kotwali unit Juba Dal committee Momen sustained severe injuries after being chopped by rivals during the clash while identity of other injured could not be known.
Local sources said leaders and activists of BNP and its front organizations brought out a pro-hartal procession in the area around 10:00am. At that time, supporters of AL and its associate bodies chased them, triggering a clash there.
Cocktails were exploded one after another and clash was underway till filing this report at 11:00am.
AL men have taken position in front of district BNP’s office while BNP men were staying in Ranirdighir Par area.
On information, police rushed to the spot and began firing rubber bullets in an effort to bring the situation under control.
