NOAKHALI: An activist of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student affiliate of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has been shot dead here at Sonaimuri Thursday night.

The deceased was identified as Morshed Alam Parvej, 25, son of Alamgir Hossain, residing in Hasanpur village under Sonapur union of the upazila.

He was an activist of local union Chhatra Dal unit, claimed Sonapur union BNP president Advocate Selim.

Witnesses alleged that Jakir, the second-in-command of a local Jisan Group, and also a cadre of Jubo League, the youth wing of Bangladesh Awami League, killed Parvej.

Parvej, according to the sources, was shot to dead around 11:00pm at Tinteri area under Abirpara village of the upazila.

Earlier, two more persons were also shot wounded at that area in a clash, held between two rival groups of local Awami League, on the same day.

Locals alleged that Parvej might be killed in that connection.

However, Sonaimuri Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ashraful Islam, confirming the matter, said that police, on information, sent the body to Noakhali General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

“Police is looking into the matter,” he added.
