DHAKA: The 20-party alliance led by BNP announced to enforce a 36-hour hartal from Sunday in eight districts of Rajshahi and 12-hour in Barisal division.

In Rajshahi, the alliance called the hartal protesting the killing of a Chhatra Dal leader in Capainawabganj early Friday in a gunfight.

BNP organizing secretary of the divisional unit Harun-ar-Rashid confirmed the matter to banglanews on Friday evening.

In Barisal, the alliance called daylong hartal in the division on protest of the confinement of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and arrest of BNP leaders including acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

Barisal Metropolitan BNP joint secretary Zia Uddin Sikdar declared the hartal in the evening.
