Suspended Sylhet mayor Arif denied bail

HABIGANJ: A Habiganj district court on Sunday denied bail petition of suspended mayor of Sylhet City Corporation Ariful Haque Chowdhury in a case of killing former finance minister Kibria.

Habiganj district and session judge Mahbub-ul-Islam passed the order after bail hearing.

Defense lawyer Chowdhury Ashraful Bari Noman filed the bail petition before the court at 11:30am.

He has been undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) since January 1 as he suddenly fell sick at Habiganj prison.

Earlier on December 30 last year, a court sent Sylhet City Corporation mayor Ariful Haq Chowdhury to jail after he surrendered in former finance minister Shah AMS Kibria murder case.

He is one of the charge-sheeted accused in the case.
