DHAKA: Transport workers-leaders threatened to besiege BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia Gulshan political office on January 22 if hartal-blockade was not withdrawn by January 21.
They also demanded arrest of Khaleda Zia making her accused for instigating followers to create anarchy and kill driver-helper by arson attacks.
The leaders-activists under the banner of Bangladesh Road Transport Shramik League issued the threat and declared the demonstration at a human chair in front of the National Press Club on Sunday.
President of the organization Wahiduzzman said, “You (Khaleda) will have to withdraw hartal-blockade and to stop killing driver-helper, general people by torching vehicles by January 21 otherwise we will besiege your office on January 22.”
Scores of driver-helper were killed, 225 vehicles torched, some 5,00 vehicle vandalized since nationwide blockade called by BNP-led 20-party alliance, the added.
Dhaka City Awami League publicity and publication secretary Abdul Haque Sabuj, Bangladesh Road Transport Workers’ League executive president Rafiqul Islam vice-president Serajul Islam and joint-general secretary Abdus Sattar Mollik were among others present at the programme.
