DHAKA: In the latest bid to avert political hazards, initiative is being taken to relocate the political offices from city’s Gulshan, Banani and Baridhara areas, known as diplomatic zone.
Sources concerned confirmed the matter regarding the initiative being taken to ensure security in the special zone.
They said that the initiative will pave the way to relocate political offices of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad. It will also include the removal of unit offices of all political parties.
According to the sources, there has been a diplomatic pressure on the government regarding the relocation of the offices of political parties. The issue used to come under spotlight when the area goes in turmoil. But, the issue goes to hibernation when situation turns normal.
However, the demands of relocating political parties from the diplomatic zone by several quarters become lauder following the two-week long confinement of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in her political office and the ongoing unrest across the country as well.
Sources further said that some of the influential foreign embassies have recently reminded the government on the matter.
Lastly, Bangladesh Nationalist Front MP Abul Kalam Azad publicly demanded relocation of BNP chief’s political office in the diplomatic zone.
Currently, the government is thinking about it seriously, the sources added.
