‘Stop killing to grab power’

DHAKA: Jatiya Party (JP) chairman HM Ershad, also special envoy to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, on Monday observed that no party can assume power by killing people.

“Any political party cannot assume power by killing power. The mandate of the country’s people is needed to assume power,” he said.

The former President made the observation while talking to journalists after his visit at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) see the victims, who sustained burn injuries during hartal and blockade.

He said, “I saw the pathetic scene at the burn unit. It stirs the feeling of guilty for involving in politics. We do politics for the betterment of people,” he continued, ‘but what I have seen is miserable.”

The JP chief also observed that the prevailing situation of the country has made people anxious.

Ershad called for a dialogue between all political parties to discuss about the future political culture of the country.

Calling upon all to sit together, the special envoy hoped that the existing chaotic situation will be calm soon.
