JASHORE: A local Awami League leader in Siddipasha union under Abhaynagar upazila of Jashore was hacked to death allegedly by his neighbors following a dispute over land.

The deceased was identified as Sheikh Abdus Salam, 50.

Sonatola Police Camp In-Charge Sub-Inspector (SI) Al Amin told Banglanews that Salam engaged in a scuffle with neighboring brothers Asad and Habib, over cutting a tree, on Saturday (Mar 9) noon.

At one stage, Asad and Habib started stabbing Salam with sharp weapons.

They also stabbed Salam’s elder brother Sheikh Harun as he came to the scene.

The villagers caught Habib from the spot and handed over him to police while Asad managed to flee away.

Salam, Harun and Habib were taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) by police. Salam succumbed to injuries around 5pm.

Salam had a longstanding rivalry with the attackers’ family over land, according to Siddhipasha union parishad chairman Khan A Kamal.

One of the killers has been hospitalized under police custody. Efforts are on nab the other accused and file a case, said Abhaynagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Alamgir Hossain.
