Satkhira Akbar razakar arrested

SATKHIRA: Police have arrested a leader of Jamaat-e-Islami on the charge of alleged crimes against humanity committed during the Liberation War in Satkhira.

Jamaat leader Moulana Akber Ali, who was absconding for long, was arrested from his daughter’s house in Brozabox village around 11pm on Wednesday (Oct 31) night, Mohammad Mustafizur Rahman, superintendent of Satkhira police.

Akbar Ali is the accused in the case against humanity in Satkhira. He was the head of Razakar, a collaborating force of the Pakistan Army during the war in Satkhira.

In addition, there are more than 50 cases against him on charges of vandalism in 2013. 

When the International Crimes Tribunal was set up on 2010, Akbar went into hiding to avoid arrest.

Then, he came out of from hiding in 2013 and carried out massive violence in the name of anti-government movement. Then he again went into hiding. 

Tipped off, he was arrested in a joint operation from his daughter's house in Brozabox village of Kolaroa upazila.

According to the police, a case against Akbar Ali was filed for crimes against humanity (GR92/9, Kaliganj) in 2009 years.
