All should abide by court order on DCCs polls date: Quader

DHAKA: Road, transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader called upon city dwellers including the protesting students of Dhaka University to accept the court’s order regarding the date of polls to the two Dhaka city corporations.

“I think all should abide by the order issued by the High Court,” he said.

Obaidul Quader, also the general secretary of ruling Awami League (AL), was talking to reporters at a press conference on contemporary issues at his secretariat office in the city on Thursday (Jan 16) morning.

The High Court on Tuesday (Jan 14) rejected a writ petition filed seeking its directive to defer the polls as Saraswati Puja, one of the biggest religious festivals of the Hindu community, will be celebrated across the country on the day.

The HC bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Md Khairul Alam passed the order considering the progress in the election process and the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations scheduled to take place on February 2.
