DHAKA: A Dhaka Court on Sunday granted ad-interim bail to 35 BNP leaders including its secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in different cases filed on charges of vandalising vehicles and attacking police.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Kayes granted the bail on Sunday, after the leaders surrendered before the court and filed their bail petition.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Joint Secretary General Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel and Chairperson Khaleda Zia's special assistant Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas were among the 35 BNP leaders to get bail.

On December 15, 2019, the High Court granted eight weeks of interim bail to 23 of these BNP leaders.

Earlier on December 11, 2019, the cases were filed with Shahbag police against 135 BNP leaders and activists including Fakhrul over the incident.
