The responsible batting helped India set a 229-run target for Bangladesh in the second ODI in Mirpur today (July 19) to put India in the driver's seat.
India's top-order batswomen, Yastika Bhatia and Smriti Mandhana, managed to provide a solid start, but they faltered as Bhatia was run out due to a deflection off bowler Marufa Akter's hand.
With Smriti Mandhana took 36 runs while Harmanpreet Kaur 52 runs, Harleen Deol 25, and Jemimah Rodrigues 86 runs, India managed to score 228 for eight in the stipulated 50 overs.
Sultana Khatun and Nahida Akter bagged two wickets each while Marufa Akter and Rabeya Khan picked one wicket each.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh is upbeat after their historic victory in the first ODI. The captain, Nigar Sultana, chose to bowl again, hoping to capitalize on the momentum and secure a series win against India.
All-rounder Lata Mondal expressed the significance of such a victory, as it would be a turning point for women's cricket in Bangladesh, who have only won ODI series against Pakistan, Zimbabwe, and Ireland in the past.
India made two changes in their playing XI for the second ODI, bringing in Harleen Deol and pace bowler Meghna Singh. Bangladesh made a change as well, with all-rounder Lata Mondal replacing Shorna Akter.
Bangladesh lead the three-match series 1-0 after Marufa Akter and Rabeya Khan scripted their first win against India in ODIs as the visitors were bowled out for 113 and lost by 40 runs in the rain-hit opening game.
