Shakib al Hasan will lead Bangladesh in upcoming Asia Cup and World Cup, Bangladesh Cricket Board president on Friday (August 11).

“We have appointed Shakib as the captain for Asia Cup and World Cup. The World Cup and Asia Cup squad will be announced tomorrow. The selectors will squad of 17 members,” Nazmul told reporters at his house on Friday.

Earlier, BCB authorities said they will declare the name of captain for ODI by August 12.

Cricket operations committee chairman Jalal Yunus, however, submitted a brief list to this end. The list includes names of Shakib al Hasan, Liton Das and Mehedi Miraz.     

After an emergency meeting on Tuesday (August 8), Jalal Yunus talked to journalists.

He said, “Those who are eligible for captaincy are in discussions. Still, we have not finalised the matter. The captain nominees have not been consulted yet. We will talk to them. The list we have made includes Shakib al Hasan, Liton Das and Mehedi Miraz.”

The BCB will declare the name of captain for ODI by August 12. At first, captain will be selected for the Asia Cup and then World Cup, Jalal added.
