Bashundhara Group Managing Director and Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Limited Chairman Sayem Sobhan Anvir celebrated the 60th birthday of Sheikh Russel at the Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Club Complex in Bashundhara Residential Area in the capital on Wednesday (October 18).
Sheikh Russel, the youngest child of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and youngest brother of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was born on October 18 in 1964 at Dhanmondi 32 which is now known as ‘Bangabandhu Memorial Museum or Bangabandhu Bhaban’.
Russel was brutally killed along with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib, his two elder brothers Sheikh Kamal, Sheikh Jamal and their most of the family members and close relatives on the fateful night of 15 August in 1975 by a group of disgruntled army men.
He was then only 10 years old and a grade four student at University Laboratory School.
Bangabandhu’s two daughters – incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana – survived the carnage as they were in Germany at that time.
Sayem Sobhan Anvir took all initiatives to celebrate this day in a befitting manner as like every year.
The Sheikh Russel KC Chairman joined in a special monajat seeking eternal peace for the departed soul of Sheikh Russel before cutting a cake on this day.
Then, the Sheikh Russel KC Chairman handed over a cheque to national team goalkeeper Mitul Marma, who is going to play for the club in the upcoming domestic season.
Sheikh Russel’s Vice-Chairman Naem Nizam and Imdadul Haque Milon, Director In Charge Ismat Jamil Akhond, Director Finance Md Fakhruddin, Directors Dr Sazzad Haider, Md Hamidul Haque and Md Abubakar, life time members – Shah Alom and Abdul Latif, players, coaching staff other distinguished personalities were present on the occasion.
Earlier this day, Sheikh Russel KC directors, members and officials paid rich tribute placing floral wreaths to Sheikh Russel’s grave in the city’s Banani and arranged a dua mahfil and special monajat at Banani graveyard mosque.
