Sri Lanka defeated England by 8 wickets in an ODI World Cup 2023 match at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday. 

Chasing a paltry total of 157, Pathum Nissanka (77 not out) and Sadeera Samarawickrama (65 not out) guided the side home in 25.4 overs. Earlier, Lahiru Kumara registered a three-wicket haul (3 for 35) as Sri Lanka bowled out England for 156. 

After making a rapid start with a flurry of boundaries to reach 44 for 0 in six overs, England suffered a batting collapse. 

Ben Stokes scored 43 but lacked support from other batters after Jos Buttler won the toss and opted to bat.
