India outclass Bangladesh by 50 runs in crucial T20 WC

India have defeated Bangladesh by 50 runs to win their second Super 8 match of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua and Barbuda.

The Men in Blue are undefeated in this competition with five wins and are close to confirming their semi-final spot.

Bangladesh had a slow start to the chase as Indian bowlers kept their dominance over them. Litton Das (13) was the first man to depart in the fifth over by Hardik Pandya.

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto looked compact but he didn’t get enough support from the other end. Spinner Kuldeep Yadav removed Tanzid Hasan (29) and Towhid Hridoy (4) to put more pressure on the Tigers.

Shakib Al Hasan tried to accelerate from ball one but he fell on 11 off 8 balls. He was also dismissed by Yadav.

Najmul’s innings was ended by Jasprit Bumrah as he was unable to pick his slower delivery and the ball went up in the air. He scored 31-ball 40.

All-rounder Rishad Hossain tried to minimise the gap with quickfire 10-ball 24.

For India, Bumrah ended with figures of 2/13 while Arshdeep Singh bagged 2/30. Kuldeep was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3/19.

Earlier, India scored 196/5 after being put into bat first.

The Men in Blue started aggressively with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli opening the innings. The Indian skipper smashed 11-ball 23 before being dismissed by Shakib Al Hasan.

The Men in Blue managed 53/6 in powerplay, their best score in this competition. Tanzim Hasan Sakib pull things back for Bangladesh by removing Kohli (37) and Suryakumar Yadav (6) in space of three deliveries.

Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant scored a brisk 36 from 24 balls with the help of four fours and two sixes.

Meanwhile, all-rounders Shivam Dube and Hardik Pandya put the step on the paddle and scored freely. Both added 53-run stand for fifth wicket.

Dube slammed 34 off 24 balls, powered by three sixes while Pandya remained unbeaten on 50 off 27 balls.

India will play their final Super 8 against Australia on June 24.
