A lawyer has sent a legal notice to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), demanding Shakib’s immediate removal from the national team and his return to Bangladesh.
Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Sajib Mahmud Alam issued the notice, arguing that since a criminal case has been recorded against Shakib, he is ineligible to remain in the national cricket team under the International Cricket Council (ICC) regulations. The notice further stressed the need for Shakib to be brought back to the country for investigation.
The case against Shakib was filed at the Adabar Police Station under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). The complaint accuses Shakib of being involved in the murder of garment worker Rubel during the mass protests against the Sheikh Hasina government.
The case, filed on Thursday by Rubel's father, also names former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former BCB President Nazmul Hassan Papon as accused.
As the situation unfolds, the cricketing community and fans await further actions from the BCB regarding Shakib’s future with the team amidst these serious allegations.
