Tigers beat Afghans

DHAKA: Bangladesh won the first match against Afghanistan by 9-wicket in the qualifying round of ICC World T20 on Sunday afternoon.

Anamul Haque’s not out 44 helped Bangladesh score 78 with eight over remaining at Mirpur She-e-Bangla Stadium.

Besides, Tamim Iqbal and Shakib scored 21 and 10 runs respectively.

Earlier in the day, winning the toss, Tiger’s Captain Mushfiqur Rahim invited Afghanistan to bat first. Bangladesh bowlers smashed all wickets of Afghanistan for 72-run in 17.1-over.

Gulbadin Naib scored highest 21 runs for the Afghans.

All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan bagged two wickets while and Abdur Razzak took two wickets. Mashrafe Mortaza took the first wicket with the first ball of the innings.

Shakib was announced ‘player of the match’.

Bangladesh will face Nepal in their next match at Chittagong on March 18, 2014. The match will start at 7:30 local time.
