Niaz Murshed beats Lee Qing Aun

DHAKA: Bangladesh chess Grand Master (GM) Niaz Murshed on Saturday beat Lee Qing Aun of Singapore in the 6th round matches of the 41st World Chess Olympiad in Tromso, Norway.

Moreover, another GM Enamul Hossain Razib drew with WIM Gong Quinyun of Singapore on the day same, though, at the end of the day Bangladesh men’s team lost to Singapore by 1.5-2.5 points in the open section.

The awkward result scored as Bangladeshi GM Ziaur Rahman lost to GM Zhang Zhong while another GM Abdullah Al Rakib lost to IM Goh Wei Ming Kevin, V News reports.

However, Bangladesh women’s team beat Chinese Taipei by 3-1 points in the women’s section.

In the women’s group, Shamima Akter Liza, Rani Hamid and Sharmin Sultana Shirin won their respective matches against Lin Yu-Tong Elaine, Liao Jo-Yu and cho Hung-Ling of Chinese Taipei while Nazrana Khan Eva lost to Gao Yi Ping.

After the 6th round matches, Bangladesh men’s (Open) team earned 5 match points and 11.5 game points.

And, Bangladesh Women Team earned 6 match points and 12 game points after the 6th round matches.
