Tigers set 277-run target

DHAKA: Bangladesh, who have already bagged the series, scored 276-run losing nine wickets in the third and final One Day International (ODI) at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in city’s Mirpur area on Wednesday.

The openers Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes gave the host a brisk start scoring 147-run in 29-over.

Before returning to pavilion, Kayes scored 73-run while Tamim continued upto 35th over. He also scored 73-run. Both fell to the trap of stamping.

Mahmudullah amassed 52-run off 40-ball, helped the team to cross 270-run mark. Besides, Mushfiqur Rahim, Liton Das and Mashrafe Mortaza took 28, 17 and 16 runs respectively.

Jongwe and Cremer took two wickets each while T Panyangara, Sikandar Raza and MN Waller took one wicket each.

Earlier, Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza won the toss in the series for the first time and chose to bat in the day-night match that began at 1:00pm (Bangladesh time).

Winning the second ODI as well as the series, Bangladesh want to achieve 3-0 series whitewash against Zimbabwe Wednesday.

Earlier in December, 2014, Tigers whitewashed Zimbabwe 3-0 series and then whitewashed Pakistan 3-0 at home.

Later, they beat India 2-1 and South Africa 2-1 at home. This year will go down as one of the most successful year for the Tigers.

If Bangladesh whitewashes Zimbabwe today, it will be the sixth clean sweep in Tigers’ history. Earlier, Bangladesh also whitewashed Kenya and New Zealand.
