3 killed, 20 injured in Madaripur road mishaps

MADARIPUR: At least three people, including a businessman and a schoolgirl, were killed and 20 injured in separate road mishaps here Friday.

The deceased were identified as Nurul Islam, 50, Supria, 8, and Siraj Hossain, 25.

The injured were rushed to Rajair, Tekerhat and Bhanga upazila health complexes.

Officer-in-Charge of Rajair thana M Moshiur Rahman said a Borguna-bound bus of Meghna Paribahan crashed into roadside ditch, skidding off the  Dhaka-Barisal highway, at Charprasunadi under Maksudpur upazila. Nurul Islam, a businessman, died on the spot while 20 others were injured.

He also said a speeding microbus ran over a child named Supria on the same highway in Nayakandi area under Rajair upazila. "She died on the spot," he added.

The deceased was a class-III student of Nayakandi Government Primary School.

Besides, Officer-in-Charge of Shibchar thana M Abdur Razzak said a truck knocked down Siraj Hossain, a bus helper, at Kawrakandi Ferry-ghat under Shibchar upazila, leaving him severely injured.

He was rushed to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex where the duty doctor declared him dead.
