Youth killed in city road accident, bus burnt in protest

DHAKA: A young man was killed in a road accident in the city’s Mirpur area just after eid prayer on Saturday morning, which triggered a protest by agitated people, who torched the killer bus.

Road communications remained suspended on the route for an hour following the accident and the backlash.

The deceased was identified as Shamim.

Witnesses said a bus of Grammen Paribahan knocked down Shamim while crossing Kazipara road after performing Eid prayer. He died on the spot.

"Immediately after accident, an angry mob set the bus on fire. Firefighters rushed in and put out the blaze," says a spot account of the scene.
