DHAKA: An elderly man was stabbed to death allegedly by his insolent son in the city’s Mohammadpur area Sunday following a feud over  money-extortion by the latter.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Karim, 76, a resident of Sir Syed Ahmed Road area.

Police arrested the suspected patricide, Asadul Karim, said Mohammadpur thana officer-in-charge Mainul Afsar.

Family sources said Asadul stabbed his father indiscriminately in the morning following an altercation over money he sought as a usual practice, leaving Abdul Karim fatally injured.

The victim`s elder son, Ziaul Karim, rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared him dead at about 11:30am.

Ziaul told Banglanews that his brother is mentally abnormal and also drug addict. He returned from the Middle East 10 years ago and has been in financial crisis, he said.

“After his return home from abroad, Asadul used to demand money from our father. As father refused to pay him money on Sunday morning, Asadul stabbed him indiscriminately,” Ziaul said.
