3 killed in ÔÇ£crossfireÔÇØ in Kushtia, Chittagong

DHAKA: Three terrorists including two outlaws were killed in separate ‘shootouts’ with the law enforcers in Kushtia and Chittagong early Thursday.

In Kushtia, two members of outlawed Gono Mukti Fouz were killed in a ‘gunfight’ between their cohorts and members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police at Darbeshpur village under Sadar upazila.

The deceased were identified as Mannan Mollah, 42 of Khardad Bakhel village under Islami University Thana and Mohammed Ali Mandal, 40 of Darbeshpur village.

Police sources said on information, the joint team of law enforcers raided Darbeshpur where 20/30 members of outlawed group were holding a clandestine meeting at about 2am.
 
Sensing their presence, the outlaws opened fire targeting the law enforcers, prompting them to retaliate.

“After the gunfight, we found two bodies on the spot, said Assistant Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) CA Halim to banglanews.
 
The gun-battle also left three members of police injured, he added.

The bodies were sent to Kushtia General Hospital morgue, said police.

Mohammed Ali Mondal was wanted in five murder cases filed with several Thanas of Kushtia and Mannan Mollah wanted in four cases, including three for murders, he added.  

Police also recovered two-shooter guns, a revolver, eight bombs, 19 round bullets from the scene.

In Chittagong, a top-listed terrorist and robber leader was killed in another gunfight with RAB members Dumkhali Beribadh area under Mirsorai Thana on Wednesday night, reports banglanews correspondent.

The deceased was identified as Akteruzzaman Khushbu, 38, son of Mohammad Shahjahan, of village Banir Hat of Shandip’s Kalapani union.

He was wanted in 19 cases, including Juba League activist Sohrab Hossain and Urairchar’s Chairman Khairul Alam murder cases, said RAB sources.

RAB-7 staff officer ASP Mustafizur Rahamn told banglanews, “Acting on a tip-off, they raided Dhumkhali Beribadh area at about 1am where robbers were holding a meeting.”

“As the elite-force reached the spot, the terrorists opened fire on them. The gunfight ensued when the RAB members responded,” the officer said.

Later RAB-7 recovered injured Khushbu in critical condition from the scene. He was rushed to local Helth Complex where he succumbed to his injury.
