DHAKA: The opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will stage a mass hunger strike on July 25 at Paltan Maidan in their next major political move in protest against what they said “oppression-repression” by the government.
BNP secretary-general Khandaker Delwar Hossain announced the programme Tuesday after a joint meeting of the party’s leaders of different front organizations at their Naya Paltan central office.
“The government is working to serve the interest of aliens, casting aside the interests of the people of the country. BNP cannot remain a silent spectator,” Delwar said, throwing the next course of action after the recent hartal or general strike that left a trail of reprisals from the administration.
He alleged that the government was politicising the administration to toe the line.
“They (Awami League) want to reintroduce BAKSAL and to plunder the country,” he told journalists.
BNP Standing Committee members M Shamsul Islam, M.K Anwar, Sarwari Rahman, Gayeswar Chandra Roy, Vice-Chairman Abdullah Al-Noman and Organising Secretary and former Rajshahi mayor Mizanur Rahman Minu were present.
Presidents and secretaries of front organizations of Dhaka, Gazipur, Munshiganj, Manikganj and all thana units of Dhaka City BNP also attended the important meeting.
