Dinajpur BNP president sent to jail

DINAJPUR: A Dinajpur court on Monday sent district BNP president Lutfur Rahman Mintu to jail rejecting his bail plea in a vandalism case and obstructing police from discharging government duties.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Court Judge Syed Kamal Hossain passed the order when he surrendered before the court around 3:45pm and pleaded for bail.

The case statement said BNP leaders and activists locked into a clash when Kotwali Thana police obstructed their protest procession brought out from district BNP office on January 5.

During the clash, they vandalized various offices, including banks and insurances.

District Awami League joint general secretary Mirza Ashfaq filed a lawsuit with the thana against 500 mentioning names of 56.

Earlier, police detained 12 leaders and activists of the party for vandalizing and obstructing police from discharging government duties.
