Helal-Matin panel declares election manifesto

DHAKA: The Helal-Matin panel Tuesday declared the election manifesto for Muktijoddha Sangsad election with the focus on 24 issues, including announcement of March 7 as ‘Freedom Fighters Day’ and increased government allowance for the freedom fighters.

Their manifesto also includes taking initiatives against ‘fake freedom fighters’ to remove them from the list in case of lack of government steps.

Leaders of the panel raised the demands while declaring the manifesto at a panel-introducing programme in at the National Press Club.

The leaders resented “corruption” in the liberation War Affairs Ministry, claiming that they have had evidence of corruption worth a total of Tk 45 crore from 1996 to 2005.  “ We shall take back the money from them at any cost,” one leader said.

Major-General (retd) Helal Morshed Khan as a candidate for the chairman post under the panel presented the election manifesto at the programme.

Emdad Hossain Matin for the post of Secretary General (Admin), Sultan Udin Ahmed for Vice-Chairman, among others, were present at the press conference.

The election will be held on June 26. A total of 4 panels, namely, Ahad chowdhry-Mohiuddin, Helal-Matin, Noim-Mojammel and Gama-Salauddin panels are contesting the polls.
