BOGURA: The by-election to Bogura-6 constituency is underway in peaceful manner from Monday (June 24) morning.
The voting started at 141 centres around 9:00am and will continue till 5pm without any break.
Voters in the constituency are exercising their franchise using Electronic Voting machines (EVMs) for the first time.
There are 387,458 voters in the constituency. Of them, 191,668 are males while 195,790 females.
Alongside BGB, RAB and Police, several vigilance team led by executive magistrates have been deployed in the whole election area.
Senior District Election and Returning Officer Mahbub Alam Shah told Banglanews that no untoward incident has yet been reported in the polling areas. Voting is underway in peaceful manner.
The candidates are Awami League nominated SMT Zaman Niketta, BNP nominated Golam Mohammad Siraj, Jatiya Party nominated Nurul Islam Omar, Mansur Rahman of Bangladesh Congress, Rafiqul Islam of Bangladesh Muslim League, Independent candidate Former General Secretary of Bogra District Motor Workers Union Syed Kabir Ahmed Mithu and businessman Minhaz.
The parliamentary seat was declared vacant on April 30 as BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir did not take oath as Member of Parliament after being elected from the constituency in the December-30 general election.
