DHAKA: The Election Commission is likely to hold by-election to the vacant seat of Rangpur-3 constituency in the first week of October.
The EC will hold a meeting on Tuesday (August 27) regarding the schedule of by-elections in the vacant constituency. The meeting will be held at the Nirbachon Bhaban of Agargaon at 5pm with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda in the chair.
The matter was disclosed in an office order signed by Deputy Secretary (Establishment) of the EC Md Shahedunnabi Chowdhury.
The schedule could be announced after the meeting. Voting can take place any day between October 1 and October 5, according to the EC Officials.
To complete the election in October, the schedule must be announced by the end of August or September 1, and the schedule must be announced by August 20, if the election would be held the end of September.
As per rule, any election requires 35-45 days after the announcement of the schedule.
EC Joint Secretary Farhad Ahmed Khan told Banglanews that voting will be held in the first week of October. It will be between October 1 and October 5.
The parliamentary seats fell vacant after the death of Hussain Muhammad Ershad on July 14.
