DHAKA: Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said corruption was institutionalized during the reign of Khaleda Zia-led BNP.
Dr Hasan came up with the remarks while addressing a discussion at the auditorium of Jatiya Press Club in the capital on Thursday (September 19).
Amar Prakashoni organized the discussion to unveil the covers of two books on Bangabandhu with former information secretary Sayed Margub Morshed in the chair.
Addressing BNP, the minister said the country became champion in corruption for five times during BNP’s regime.
Dr Hasan Mahmud said: “BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and her former finance minister Saifur Rahman whitened black money. Tarique Rahman started 10 percent commission system for every business of the state.”
On the contrary, he said, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced zero tolerance against corruption. Actions are being taken against corruption, injustice, wrongdoing irrespective of the party and ideals.
“GDP growth rate ranks the highest in the world. On any index, it has gone far away from Pakistan while on some indexes Bangladesh is ahead of India,” he added.
