Govt should resign at once: Fakhrul

DHAKA: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the present government should resign at the moment.

“It has become a country of gamblers. If I say this is the gamblers’ government, it cannot be my offence. Because, the government has failed in all sectors and now has taken help of gambling…as if they are trying to survive in any way through gambling! It won’t work as this is a country of democratic people,” Fakhrul said.

He was addressing a human chain formed by Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal in front of National Press Club demanding release of BNP Chief Khaleda Zia on Sunday (September 22).

We want your good sense to rise now. Restore the democracy of people of the country and don’t create any barrier to the release of Khaleda Zia. Release her through the legal process. The government should quit power as it has failed to run the country.

Mirza Fakhrul also called upon the government to hold a fresh election under a neutral administration to ease public sufferings.

Fakhrul claimed that Tk 27,000 crore has been smuggled into the country in the last one year through gambling. Foreigners are working at the casinos and they are smuggling money into the country.

He said gambling has badly spread all over the country as the current government has lost control on the state machinery and failed to control their party men.

With BNP's women wing Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal President Afroza Abbas in the chair, former president of the organization Nuri Ara Safa and joint general secretary Helen Zerin Khan also spoke at the human chain.
