Bhola incident: BNP’s countrywide protest demo Oct 23

DHAKA: BNP will hold programmes in thanas of Dhaka city, district towns and metropolitan cities across the country on Wednesday (Oct 23), protesting Bhola incident that claimed four lives and scores injured.

BNP Standing Committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain announced the program at a press conference at the party's Nayapaltan central office on Monday (October 21).

"We think the Bhola incident is pre-planned. That’s why Bhola has been stained with blood.” Dr Khandaker Mosharraf said.

He strongly condemned the incident and demanded a fair investigation and exemplary punishment for the culprits.

Earlier on Sunday, four persons died and many injured in Sunday’s clash in Borhanuddin upazila following the clashes.

According to police and locals, messages containing derogatory remarks about Allah and Prophet Muhammad were sent to several persons from the Facebook ID of Biplob Chandra Shuvo. Screenshots of the messages went viral on Facebook, triggering condemnation and protests.

Following the incident, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members were deployed in Borhanuddin upazila of the district.

A day after the untoward incident, the local administration imposed an indefinite ban on all types of meetings, rallies and processions in the district.
