GAZIPUR: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said the Road Transport Act was enacted to bring discipline on roads and highways.
Development has no value, if there is no discipline on the roads. So the discipline must be restored, he said adding that journalists have responsibility in this regard.
Obaidul Quader was talking to reporters after visiting 4-lane and under-construction flyover at Shafipur area on Dhaka-Tangail highway on Friday (November 1).
Obaidul Quader said: “The World Bank is financing us. So we are working sincerely."
Attempts are being made to bring back the discipline on the road. It is a little tiresome for commuters going from Uttara to Gazipur. Everyone has to be patient. The Prime Minister herself is investigating the matter.”
The 'Road Transport Bill-2018' was passed by parliament on September 19, 2018, keeping a provision of maximum five years' jail for any death or serious injuries caused by reckless or negligent driving.
