Indictment hearing in 8 cases against Khaleda on Jan 29

DHAKA: A court here set January 29 to hold hearing on charge framing in eight cases filed for allegedly committing subversive activities by BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and others.

Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge Imrul Qayes on Wednesday (Nov 6) set the new date, allowing the time plea filed by the defence as the BNP chief could not produce before the court today due to her illness.

So, Khaleda’s counsel pleaded for time, saying proceedings of most of the cases have been stayed by the High Court and their client is now undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

Police filed the cases against Khaleda and others in 2015, and charge sheets were filed in the cases in 2016.

Other key accused in the cases are BNP leaders Amanullah Aman, Habib-Un Nabi Khan Sohail and Sultan Salauddin Tuku.

Earlier on April 1, Khaleda Zia, who was convicted in Zia Orphanage and Charitable trust cases, has been admitted to BSMMU from the old central jail in Old Dhaka, for treatment.
