DHAKA: Samir Chand Chandra has been elected president of the Bangladesh Krishak League, an associate organization of the ruling Awami League, and Umme Kulsum Smriti was made the General Secretary.
The president and general secretary were elected at the Council Session of the Seventh Conference of the Krishak League held at the Engineers Institution Auditorium in the capital city on Wednesday (Nov 6).
After the session, Awami League general secretary and Road Transport and Bridges minister Obaidul Quader announced the names of Samir Chand Chandra and Umme Kulsum Smriti as the new general secretary of the Krishak League.
Earlier, the organizing leader of the organization, Awami League president Sheikh Hasina, formally inaugurated the Krishak League conference at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan at 11am.
The first session of the conference was held there. Council session began at the nearby Engineers Institution Auditorium in afternoon.
