ACC launches probe against Shovon, Rabbani, Nazmul

DHAKA: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has started investigation into allegations of amassing wealth illegally against over 100 persons including removed president Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon and general secretary Golam Rabbani of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).

ACC sources also said former general secretary of BCL Siddique Nazmul Alam, four lawmakers of the ruling Awami League as well as five councillors of Dhaka north and south city corporations are under the watch of the commission.

Shovon and Rabbani were removed from the posts of BCL president and general secretary for their controversial activities on September 14. However, Siddique Nazmul Alam is currently staying in London.

The law enforcement agencies started purification drives against corrupts and illegal casino runners following as per directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on September 18.

Later on September 30, the anti-graft body started investigation against those who accumulated wealth through casino business and other illegal ways as part of the purification drives.
