DHAKA: BNP will stage a rally either in front of party’s Nayapaltan central office or National Press Club in the capital on Sunday (November 24), demanding unconditional release of its chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail.
Party senior joint secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi held a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office on Tuesday (November 19).
He said: “We have already appealed to the police -one of those two places at 2 pm.”
In response to a query, he said the administration requested us today considering a special program of a party. That's why we decided to stage our rally on Sunday which was prescheduled for Saturday.
Rizvi in his written statement said: “Khaleda Zia's physical illness is getting worse day by day. But the cruelty of the vengeful government against her bail or treatment does not stop.”
BNP on Tuesday (November 19) announced to stage rallies across the country, including the capital on Saturday (November 23).
On February 8 of 2018, a Dhaka court sentenced Khaleda Zia to five years imprisonment in Zia Orphanage Trust case.
She was sent to Dhaka central jail following the verdict. Since then, she has been in jail.
She has been receiving treatment from BSMMU since April 1 of this year.
