DHAKA: Attorney General (AG) Mahbubey Alam protested the chaos made by the pro-BNP lawyers in the courtroom on Thursday morning terming it very disgraceful.
The judicial activities of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court remained halted amid the chaos by pro-BNP lawyers demanding that hearing on the bail petition of BNP chief Khaleda Zia in Zia Charitable Trust graft case be held today, he added.
The AG was speaking at protest meeting organised by Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad at the north hall of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA).
The pro-BNP lawyers made the chaos in an unprecedented manner in order to create an “illegal pressure” on the SC as the apex court had adjourned the hearing on an appeal filed by the party chairperson Khaleda Zia in Zia Charitable Trust graft case until December 12, the attorney general said.
The apex court also asked the BSMMU medical board formed to treat Khaleda Zia to submit a report on her health condition within December 11 without any failure.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told the court that the health report of Khaleda Zia was not ready and more time is needed for preparing it.
On November 18 in 2018, the BNP chief has filed an appeal with the concerned branch of the High Court challenging the lower court verdict that sentenced her seven years imprisonment in Zia Charitable Trust graft case.
