DHAKA: The ruling Awami League-backed mayoral candidate for Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) polls Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh submitted nomination form on Tuesday (Dec 31).
DSCC Returning Officer Abdul Baten received his papers at the ward no. 8 community centre in Gopibagh in the capital around 12:30 pm.
Awami League leaders Abdur Rahman, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif and Jubo League president Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash , among others, were present during submission of the nomination paper.
Earlier on December 29, AL picked Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh Islam as its mayoral candidates for the DSCC elections, slated for January 30.
According to the Election Commission, the mayoral and councillor aspirants of both DNCC and DSCC will have to submit their nomination papers to the commission by December 31 (today).
The nomination papers will be scrutinized on January 2, while the aspirants will have until January 9 to withdraw their candidature.
