DHAKA: The Election Commission cleared the nomination of six mayoral candidates including Awami League-backed Atiqul Islam and BNP’s Tabith Awal to contest the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) polls slated for January 30.

Their nominations were declared legal, Returning Officer (RO) Abul Kashem said after scrutinizing nomination papers at National Institute of Local Government on Thursday (Jan 02).

The RO also said the nomination of Jatiya Party candidate GM Kamrul Islam was cancelled as he is not the city corporation voter.

The EC also cleared other mayoral candidates - Sajedul Huq Rubel of Communist Party of Bangladesh, Shahin Khan of Progressive Democratic Party, Sheikh Md Fazle Bari Masud of Islami Andolan Bangladesh and Anisur Rahman Dewan of National People's Party.
