DHAKA: Awami League mayoral candidate Atiqul Islam won the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) polls by a wide margin, according to unofficial results.

Atiqul bagged 4,47,211 votes while his nearest contestant Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) mayoral candidate Tabith Awal got 2,64,161 votes.

Returning Officer Abul Kashem announced the unofficial results from Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University in Dhaka tonight.

A total of 13 mayoral candidates contested in the two Dhaka north and south city corporations.

There were 1,318 polling centers in DNCC while 1,150 in DSCC.
