DHAKA: Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader said the reluctance of people in vote-oriented politics was not good for democracy.
The minister made the remark while talking to reporters on contemporary issues at the Secretariat on Tuesday (February 4).
Obaidul Quader said: “I hoped for more votes as Awami League has such public support. For this, a working committee meeting will be held when Prime Minister (Sheikh Hasina) returns to country. However, this vote is not optimistic considering percentage of Awami League voters. Many have gone village homes on a two-day vacation. Examination, transportation crisis, and some of the organizational weaknesses are responsible for it (low turnout). But there have been good elections. Repetition of the mistakes of the present will be avoided in future.”
Overall, there was a good selection, he also said.
