One held over journalist Sumon attack on DCC voting day

DHAKA: A man was detained in connection with an attack on Mostafizur Rahman Sumon, a crime reporter at online news portal Agami News, in Mohammadpur on the day of the Dhaka city corporations elections.

Police picked up Ismail from a house in Rayerbazar area of the capital on Wednesday night. Later, he was shown arrested in the case file by the victim journalist Sumon.

Sub-inspector of Mohammadpur Police Station Altaf Hossain said Ismail would be produced before court with remand prayer on Thursday (Feb 6).

On February 1, Sumon was injured in an attack allegedly by supporters of a ruling party-backed councillor candidate in Mohammadpur area.

Later, a case was filed with Mohammadpur Police Station accusing some unidentified persons for the attack.
