DHAKA: The government would take tougher action if the cases of coronavirus infection increase in the second phase due to unawareness, said Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Wednesday (June 10).
He said: "If the virus infections will continue to rise in the second phase because of people's unawareness, the government will go for strict action."
Obaidul Quader, also the Awami League general secretary, made the remark in an agreement signing ceremony of Northern Metro-rail Route-5 between Mass Rapid Transit Company Ltd and Japanese Nippon Koei Co, Ltd through video conferencing from his official residence.
He called upon the residents in the areas which were put under fresh lockdown for growing number of coronavirus cases to follow health guideline properly to avert the second wave of infections.
Meanwhile, the minister said a pro-people and welfare oriented national budget for fiscal 2020-’21 will be placed in the parliament tomorrow (Thursday), giving the highest priority to the life and livelihood of the people..
Obaidul Quader said the government has reviewed the opinions of experts and economists in line with the party manifestoes before finalizing the budget.
