A Kuwait court on Wednesday (June 24) penalised Bangladeshi lawmaker Mohammad Shahid Islam Papul 21-day imprisonment in the central prison.
Papul, elected parliament member (MP) from Laxmipur-2 constituency, was sent to jail for charges of money laundering, human trafficking, visa trading and bribery.
The public prosecutor decided to continue the imprisonment of the remaining accused and to release the owner of the Company on bail of 2,000 diners.
On June 7, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Kuwait arrested Shahid Islam Papul for the aforementioned charges.
Meanwhile, the Kuwaiti authorities earlier had ordered to confiscate Tk 138 crore in the MP Papul’s bank account.
However, Papul’s membership in the parliament might be revoked after the announcement of this punishment read out by the Kuwait court.
