Circular issued: 93pc jobs on merit, 7pc from quotas

The government has issued a circular mentioning that 93 percent of civil service recruitments will be based on merit, with the remaining seven percent allocated to various quotas.

This new system, in line with a Supreme Court order, is effective immediately for all 20 grades of government and related bodies.

According to the circular, five percent of the quota is reserved for children of freedom fighters, martyred freedom fighters, and Biranganas. One percent is set aside for ethnic minorities, and another one percent for persons with disabilities and people of the third gender.

The quota system applies to direct appointments following recruitment tests. If there aren't enough candidates to meet the quota, the positions will be filled from the merit list.

Announcing the circular, Law Minister Anisul Huq said, "We have implemented the Supreme Court's verdict as it is... The movement was primarily to reform the quota, and we have done it. Students should now return to their classrooms."

The circular follows unprecedented violence related to the student protests for quota reform.

At least 150 people were killed and thousands injured since Tuesday. The death toll may rise as many critically injured have not been fully accounted for, and families have taken bodies from the scene.

Besides, numerous public and private properties and vehicles were vandalized or torched.
